a map without words, II

a map without words, II is an emerging image series that captures the landscape of Kalorama and Adams Morgan, two adjacent neighborhoods in Washington, D.C. I happened to visit the neighborhoods for the first time during Thanksgiving in 2019, right after entering my first intimate relationship in high school. Following that memory, the place has since become a clue to my adolescence, the carefreeness of youth love, and the excitement of a new land.

As one of my early visits to the US, I have since took multiple trips back to the place. I would take long walks. Those walks are therapeutic. The quiet creek between roads provides habitat for trees - trees that are slender but stark, with frosted leaves against red toned bridges, and below them, horses grazing in the stable. This land between the trees has become somewhere I would want to go when feeling overwhelmed by adulthood, somewhere that I find comfort.
